The Australian is currently in charge in a caretaker capacity having stepped in at short notice to replace Andy Robinson for this year’s Championship after Robinson resigned following a poor Autumn International series.

Johnson seems to have turned the tide at Murrayfield winning two of his four RBS 6 Nations matches to date ahead of the final match of the campaign against France in Paris on Saturday.

And while Johnson is the stand-out option to take the reins at Murrayfield permanently, he is adamant there will be no discussions until after this weekend.

''This ride is not about me. It's about Scotland. I've got a job to do and that is to prepare for a World Cup, whether I'm there or not," he said.

''It's important for Scotland's development that I get that part right.

''I will review it with the appropriate people at the end of the campaign, like I said at day one. We will sit down and decide what is in the best interests of Scottish rugby.''

Scotland’s wins over Italy and Ireland in this year’s Championship have put them on the verge of winning three times in the Championship for the first time since 2006.

Johnson’s men have also put in decent displays against England and Wales, but while the Aussie is pleased with the progress he admits there is still plenty of room for improvement.

“There are some things I'm really happy with at times and some things I think have gone back a peg or two,” he added.

''It's been really hard to judge because we haven't been able to play the way we want to play. Some of that is our fault – we accept that.

''Some of it is out of our control and that is the frustrating part from our point of view. So we have got so sort that out so we are more in control.''
