Sergio Parisse has received a 30-day ban
Italy captain Parisse to miss Wales clash

Italy captain Sergio Parisse will miss Saturday's clash with Wales after receiving a 30-day ban.
The 29-year-old No.8 was handed a ban of 40 days following his red card on duty for Stade Francais against Bordeaux-Begles and he will miss the rest of the RBS 6 Nations unless he makes a successful appeal.

Ten of those days are suspended after a French league disciplinary hearing however he will still miss Italy’s final three fixtures.

That incorporates Wales’ visit to Rome on Saturday before Italy face England at Twickenham on March 10 and then host Ireland.

Veteran flanker Mauro Bergamasco was called into Italy’s squad for the Wales clash in the aftermath of the incident involving Parisse.

And, while that is bad news for club side Zebre, their forwards coach Vincenzo Troiani is only too happy to see Bergamasco return to the national team.

His call up continues a remarkable streak that has seen a Bergamasco included in every RBS 6 Nations since the tournament began.

And Troiani, who is already missing a number of players including Giovanbattista Venditti and Luciano Orquera, is overjoyed for his players.

“We are delighted to see our players called up to the national team,” he said. “If Mauro and others are called up, it’s a reward for our work.

“If they are called up it means there is a reason for the squad. It’s one of the objectives of the squad.”
