Lineen praises defence coach Cross

Scotland Under-20s head coach Sean Lineen paid tribute to his backroom staff - in particular defence coach Simon Cross - for their return to winning ways against Italy last weekend.
Scotland got off to a disappointing start with a 15-6 loss to the Auld Enemy England but recovered well in Galashiels to see off Italy 30-17.

Tries from fly-half Tommy Allan, captain Jonny Gray and wing Damian Hoyland secured the victory, but Lineen was delighted to see the hard work on the training pitch pay off.

“Our defence was unbelievable, Simon Cross is doing a fantastic job there, he’s a great young coach that I’m delighted to be working with,” said Lineen.

Next up for Scotland is a clash against Ireland – who saw off England last weekend – and Lineen has warned his troops to build on their good work.

He added: “The players are slowly gelling, it’s Ireland [at Galashiels], same time, same place and the boys will be looking forward to that.

“We can’t afford to give away six penalties in the first 15 minutes and expect to be in the game against Ireland though, they will punish us that way.”
