Chamberlain, who has played for England A and captained England Sevens, makes up a young England backline with several regulars – the likes of Emily Scarratt, regular captain Katy McLean and Alice Richardson – all involved in the Sevens World Series in Houston this weekend.

Chamberlain is joined in the centre by Amber Reed, who made her England debut against France in the autumn internationals, while twice-capped Lauran Cattell starts at full-back.

But despite the youthful-looking selection Street – who knows Scotland will be desperate to make their mark with 2014 World Cup qualification places up for grabs – believes England can get off to the perfect start.

“This is a big year for Scotland with RWC qualification at stake so we are not going to be taking anything for granted,” he said.

“They have got some very strong forwards and an excellent captain in Susie Brown so Saturday’s opener is definitely going to be a tough test.

“This year’s RBS 6 Nations is an exciting challenge for me and Graham Smith. Training has gone well with several new faces in the squad and we are looking fresh and the team are really up for this.

“Despite missing several players to the Sevens WRWC training squad this is still a strong starting line-up, and I am sure many teams would also still fear our bench.

“Many of our players may only have a handful of caps between them but the likes of Amber Reed, Hannah Gallagher and Ceri Large have all played France and the world champions New Zealand, and have beaten them.”
