With Les Bleus already reeling from the loss of Vincent Clerc for their opening clash against Italy, the loss of Brice Dulin to adductor injury – picked up in Castres Olympique's defeat to Bayonne on Thursday – has given Medard the opportunity to add to his 31 caps.

Medard’s last appearance for France came in the 2012 RBS 6 Nations, but with Dulin out for the entire tournament he’s eager to make up for lost time.

Also joining Philippe Saint-Andre’s squad is uncapped wing Hugo Bonneval and Medard claims it’s good to be back in the fold.

“It’s always nice, and it’s a pleasant surprise. After my injury, it’s good to get back to Marcoussis. I’m very happy,” said Medard.

“I’m trying to get minutes here and there and the French team have faith in me. It’s a show of confidence.

“The bad luck for Brice Dulin is good news for me, but I hope he’ll be back fit again soon. I’m pleased to be able to get back into the French squad.”
