Scotland and Italy could well face off against each other next summer as well as in the 2013 RBS 6 Nations after plans for a South Africa tour were announced last week.

South Africa have confirmed that they will play host to a quadrangular tournament next year featuring the two European sides and Samoa.

The ground-breaking competition, that forms part of the International Rugby Board's tours schedule, will serve as the Springboks' warm-up for their 2013 Rugby Championship campaign.

The tournament includes three double-headers, beginning on June 8 at the Mbombela Stadium, with the second round of games taking place at Kings Park a week later.

Those two games see both Italy and Scotland take onSouth Africa with Samoa the only side not guaranteed to face off with the Springboks.

After the opening two rounds of action the top two sides in the table meet in the final at Loftus Versfeld while the other two teams meet earlier in the day.

During the tournament announcement, the SARU also confirmed plans for two summer tests in 2014 against Wales and another against Scotland.
